Architect/Artist
Ignacio Aliaga
Ignacio is from Santiago, Chile. He studied architecture there, continued his studies in Madrid, Spain, and earned a master’s degree in architecture in Los Angeles, California.
He started his own architecture practice and served as Planning Commissioner for Lawndale, California. In 1992 he designed and oversaw construction of a large Canadian compound in Aden, Yemen. After moving to Helotes in 1995, he worked for 3D/International (later part of Parsons). He helped design Hotel Valencia in San Antonio and in San Jose, and later designed several downtown San Antonio hotels. He led the team that won the Chapel design competition for the University Health System Foundation in San Antonio. In his practice he designed the high-rise Homewood Suites in Austin, the high- rise Hilton Garden Inn in downtown San Antonio.
He began painting in Spain. His art captures daily experiences and aims to uplift, leave a lasting impression, and spark a positive response. His work is influenced by the places he’s lived and visited, architects and painters, vernacular architecture, art, and music.
Art is not a pre-determined aesthetic or a rigid "signature style." It grows naturally from a quest for ideas and answers. Paintings evolve as we work on them.
