60” × 30” Acrylic on canvas — Not for sale
After a heavy rain in Manila, I stepped onto the balcony and everything felt rearranged. This painting freezes that moment: the city between storm and calm. Wide horizontal strokes form a wet skyline in layered cool grays and muted blues, suggesting rain-soaked concrete and distant haze. Warmer ochres and rusts peek through like sun fighting the clouds and the city’s worn surfaces. The canvas is split into two parts. The lower section shows reflective surfaces — puddled streets and rooftop water — made glossy to look wet. Vertical drips and splatters hint at remaining raindrops and the city’s restless energy. Above, soft blending and thin glazes create a hazy atmosphere and the diffused light after the downpour. The colors and technique aim for mood more than literal accuracy: a mix of melancholy and renewal, the feel of rain on skin and concrete, the calm after chaos. A study in atmosphere — an urban moment captured in color, texture, and light.
